Be inspired by our most recent hero at Bikram Yoga Albuquerque!

What brought you to the Bikram Yoga Studio?

I had done yoga for several years and wanted to try Bikram. I’d gone to law school with Filbert so it was a pleasant surprise to see that he was a teacher. I was doing yoga for stress relief and to get a low impact workout to save my joints, however, I couldn’t save my hip.

What benefits have you experienced from your practice?

The true benefits of Bikram came after 2 1/2 years when I retired as a trial lawyer. I left a world of ego, competitiveness and aggressiveness and was able to embrace yoga where community support, patience and acceptance are more important. I appreciate how well other yogis do without trying to out do them. I can only do the best I can and that is good enough.

How often do you practice?

I kept practicing until 3 weeks before my surgery, I had to quit because of pain. I returned to practice 3 weeks after surgery. When I came back I just tried to stay in the room and adjust to the heat. I try to use proper form and am not concerned about the depth I reach. I can now do a full but limited practice.

Why do you maintain a regular practice?

After my hip replacement, yoga has been great therapy. The support I have received from the teachers and students has been tremendous. However, there are many others who are using Bikram to deal with health issues and who have used Bikram for rehab after surgery and injuries. These have been my inspiration and examples, thanks.

What is your favorite posture?

My favorite posture is savasana.

Anything else we should know?

I will keep taking it one day at a time and keep coming back because it works.

Thank you, Kevin, for your continuing inspiration for the team at Bikram Yoga Albuquerque!
